Santa Cruz of Tenerife is one of the most important ports in the Canary Islands, well known in the history books as a strategic point for fresh provisioning prior the Atlantic crossing, and where Horatio Nelson (Lord Nelson) lost his right arm in 1797 in the battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Tenerife has a special dedication to cruise vessels and to tall ships, where every New Year they concentrate as Tenerife Port Authorities have traditionally given that day free of port dues.

Pilot approaching point: All vessel approaching Tenerife port have the following Latitude & Longitude coordinates as an approaching point to receive Pilot: 28-28-53N & 16-13-35W.

However, any emergency or request whilst vessel is in port should be conducted via “Tenerife port Control” on VHF CH.12.

Local Time: The Canary Islands have one hour less than in mainland Spain, the Local Time therefore is the same as in UK. In summer, between March and October the local time is GMT+1hr, and in winter, between October and March the local time is GMT.

Airport: Tenerife port is close to both airports which have World wide connections: Tenerife North airport (Los Rodeos) at only 11 kms distance, and Tenerife South (Reina Sofia) at 60 Kms distance.
